COMMUNITY ORIENTED PROGRAMS

The UBP participates in, sponsors, and supports many community activities such as:

  • National Archery in the Schools program (NASP)
  • PA Youth Education Hunter Challenge (YHEC)
  • Adopt-A-Highway
  • PGC Youth Field Days
  • Hunt-of-a-Lifetime
  • Hunters Sharing the Harvest
  • UBP Disabled Hunters Program

FELLOWSHIP ACTIVITIES

The UBP arranges fellowship weekends and days throughout the year to which all UBP members and their guests are invited. These include:

  • Annual Winter Rendezvous and Banquet
  • Family Campout Shoot
  • Archery Golf Shoots
  • District Banquets
  • Numerous 3D Shoots throughout the state conducted by the UBP and participating UBP Club Affiliate Sponsors

Fun, fellowship, and good food are enjoyed by all. In addition, these functions serve as membership and fundraisers for the UBP.

PENNSYLVANIA GAME COMMISSION & STATE LEGISLATURE

Perhaps the best reason to become a UBP member is representation to the PGC and state legislature. The UBP provides testimony on behalf of its membership at PA Game Commission meetings and legislative hearings. The UBP makes itself available to the policy makers in Harrisburg as a resource on bowhunting related issues.

BOWHUNTER EDUCATION

In April of 1999, the UBP became a founding sponsor of the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Advanced Bowhunter Education Program. Our $8,000 contribution to this program brought us one step closer to our goal of mandatory bowhunter education in Pennsylvania for first time bowhunters.

This course is an adaption of the NBEF Basic Bowhunter Education Course. The IBEP basic course is now required in 17 states and five Canadian provinces including nearby New York and New Jersey. The course covers your responsibility as a bowhunter, shot placement, blood trailing, and many other topics.

Studies show that IBEP graduates have a 25 percent success rate over a two-year period compared to 11.4 percent for non-graduates. Many UBP members are IBEP Instructors. Many more are graduates. We invite you to join them.

UBP C.A.R.E.S.

Developed by the UBP's Landowner Relations Chairman, the C.A.R.E.S. (Courteous, Alert, Respectful;, Ethical, and Sincere) card is an excellent way to open doors that were previously closed to bowhunters. As a member of the UBP, you can obtain a supply of cards to help you during your pre-season scouting. Try it! You may find that reluctant farmer / landowner opening his property to you by presenting the card. Just fill it out, sign it, and give them a copy to identify yourself.
